Update on Asbury Creek Bridge in Arch Cape

The Clatsop County Board of Commissioners held a work session on June 15 to discuss replacement options for Asbury Creek Bridge in Arch Cape.

Asbury Creek Bridge lies on Pacific Street in Arch Cape. Pacific Street was publicly dedicated in the subdivision of Kent Price Park in 1945. The Oregon Revised Statutes gives jurisdiction of those roads to the county governing body. However, they are not roads accepted into the County Road System by the Board of Commissioners, and therefore no County road funds can be expended on them in normal circumstances.

The wooden bridge was closed to vehicular access back in the late ‘90’s due to deterioration. Recently, Public Works blocked and reposted the bridge for pedestrian traffic only. The wooden deck is becoming increasingly dangerous for even pedestrian traffic.

Public Works has put together four options for the Board to consider and provide direction as to how you would like staff to proceed:

#1 – Do nothing, continue with monitoring and posting.

#2 – Remove the existing structure and plant native vegetation to block access.

#3 – Replace existing bridge with a pedestrian bridge.

#4 – Replace existing bridge with a vehicular bridge.
